A Day in the Life...

Like anyone who runs their own business, sometimes real life steps in and makes demands on your time. In my house, often these events are really, really funny!

As a recap...after my husband passed away in 2009, my daughter moved back home. She also brought her dog and two cats with her. I already had a dog and a cat, so the blending of these animals was a challenge. But things eventually settled into a nice routine.

Introducing the current cast of characters.....
  • My daughter is in her mid-20s and is a wonderful adult. She works and is going back to college part-time. She's funny and is good company. She doesn't seem to be in any hurry to move out on her own again any time soon, but I don't mind.
  • Rocky is my daughter's 4-year-old Boxer. He's well trained, but a totally goofy and loveable dog. Sometimes I do wonder if he may be just a bit mentally challenged, though.
  • Ricky and Lucy are my daughter's two middle-aged cats. Thanks to a handy pet-door, they come and go as they please, but always show up at meal times.
  • Muggles is my cat. Well, he was to be my daughter's cat, but somehow I inherited him. He's getting old now, but is solid black with these long fangs and is as mellow as they come.
  • Samantha, my 14-year old Dalmatian, passed away from heart failure in mid-2011.
All of the pets get along well, and on occasion they will all be curled up on the couch together catching up on mid-afternoon nap. Then there are the times they all play a fun game of tag through the house. Sigh! I have hardwood floors downstairs, so Rocky slips and slides with each leg going in a different direction as he tries to run. Ricky will slide as he makes the mad dash up the stairs. It's like watching the animal version of the Ice Capades. Muggles just heads for the pet door and slips outside to get away from it all. Lucy sometimes joins in the fun, but will soon jump to a safe spot where she can just observe.

With four animals, each with their own distinctive personality and quirks, funny things are just bound to happen. Somehow I feel I am getting more than my fair share! So here's where you find some of those stories.
